CPC Samhain 2009 Altar |
The Samhain altar is decorated with seasonal pumpkins,
nuts and an apple and pomegranate. Most Wiccan altars
face North. However, due to the alignment of the ritual
site, this altar faces South. The Goddess and God images,
however, are still set in the North of the altar, in
the forefront of the picture. The pentacle is between
the two images. The wooden cup and shell shaped water
dish representing the element of water, are set in the
West.

CPC Ancestor Altar |
Due to wet weather on November 1, 2009, both the CPC Samhain main altar
and the CPC ancestor altar were set up on the same table under a canopy.
The ancestor altar was decorated with pumpkins, corn, nuts, rosemary,
red roses, pictures, food, and sundry images. Copyright 2009 Myth Woodling
Universal Temple of Spirits (UToS) altar honoring the many spirits at
Samhain. Chesapeake Pagan Community was delighted that the
good folks from UToS celebrated with us and shared their Samhain ritual
with attendees of the CPC Samhain event. The UToS is a celebratory group
practicing in the Global Spirits tradition. It is a possession-based working. Their
celebrations welcome all Spirits from around the Globe in love. Rituals are
theme-based rather than pantheon-based and incorporate what we have in common as
humans: shared food, dance, song, drumming, art, and possession trance. Global
Spirits is a "harm-none" tradition. UToS meets regularly in the Frederick, MD area.

Drawing the symbols, or "Veves," of the spirits is part of the tradition of the
UToS. The veves in the left photo include Babaluaye, Oya, Azaka, and Bear. These
designs are marked on the floor in cornmeal. The photo
on the right shows a traditional veve of Maman Brigett. Photo copyright
