Whiskey Cake
This recipe originated with my mother-in-law. She often served it in December around Christmas time. However, I do remember her serving it at some other large family celebrations. She also shared the recipe with members of her Eastern Star chapter.
- 1 box Duncan Hines butter cake mix
- 1 box instant vanilla budding mix
- 4 eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 cup oil
- 1 shot glass whiskey
- 1 cup chopped walnuts, floured
Pour all ingredients into a bowl, except for the nuts. Mix well, then blend in the nuts. Pour into a greased, floured 10-inch tube pan. Bake 1 hour at 350 degrees. Remove from oven an pour 1/2 sauce on cake at once. Let cake set in pan 30 to 45 minutes. Invert cake to remove from pan. Reheat sauce and pour on cake. Let sit until cool. Refrigerate.
Sauce:
- 1/4 cup butter
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup whiskey
Heat sauce to within boiling.
