Rainbow

A Bit of Science…

White light has all the colors of the rainbow, because it is a combination of all colors in the color spectrum. Rainbows are formed by light refracting through a collection of suspended water droplets in the atmosphere.  These water droplets act as a prism separating white light into a group of seven colors called a spectrum.  These seven colors are always in the same order. The colors of the spectrum are red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet.

“As the full spectrum of visible light travels through a prism, the wavelengths separate into the colors of the rainbow because each color is a different wavelength.” --Science Mission Directorate from NASA, Visible Light, accessed 4/18/18.
