This photo shows a new Elvis altar set up on January 8, 2011, the King's 76th birthday. In the center is a small, marble bust of Elvis Presley, surrounded by a tropical Hawaiian lei. Also adorning the altar is an Elvis teddy bear with Elvis shades, a refreshing Coca Cola beverage, and a burning American vigil candle. (Elvis was a Vietnam Era veteran.) Under the candle are the lyrics to Mojo Nixon's Elvis is Everywhere. In the very front of the altar is a copy of the "Pearls Before Swine" comic strip. Long live the King; Rock 'n Roll will never die!

A swim group held one of their pool and spa parties on January 8, 2011, which they decided would be a pool party for Elvis's birthday. Aside from the usual fare of soda, pizza and nibbles, we had an Elvis birthday cake and Elvis popcorn. The cake was decorated with tropical flowers, a blue beech umbrella and a small, inflatable motorboat. (For those who are puzzled by the boat, that related Mojo Nixon's declaration, "Elvis needs boats!")
