John Calvin Wells, Sr.
father of John C. Wells, Jr.

John C. Wells, Jr. was the son of John C. Wells, Sr. and Monetta Lee Stribling Wells. His maternal grandfather was "Christopher Columbus Thomas Alvarado Ebenezer Stribling". The father of Monetta Lee Stribling was commonly known as “Eb”. Eb Stribling was the postmaster of Clifton, TN for 29 years between 1877 and 1911. The Wayne County Citizen (newspaper) was published by Eb Stibling from 1872 to 1884. He served as a private in Company F, 12th Iowa Union Infantry during the Civil War.

As Eb served in Company F of the 12th Iowa Union Infantry in the war between the states, this means he fought for the North and the abolition of slavery. This historical fact is a point of pride in the Well family.

Patricia Stribling, sister of John C. Wells, Sr., was a well-respected school teacher in Lawrenceburg, TN. She was a strict disciplinarian. She considered herself a good Christian and, therefore, she was resistant the notion of Darwin's theory of evolution.

T. S. Stribling, Pulitzer prize winning author of The Store, was the uncle of John C. Wells, Jr. and brother of John C. Wells, Sr. Stribling also wrote The Responsibility of the Writer (1936).
