Interesting Offerings?

Coca Cola
Coca Cola brand softdrinks is a refreshing cabonated
beverage enjoyed by many Americans, simply for the taste.
If you read the entry in "Roots and Stuff" on "cola"
carbonated beverages, you will note the anthropologist
Alfred Metraux wrote in his book Voodoo in Haiti,
(1959), that Haitians offered "cola" carbonated bever-
ages--such as Coca Cola--to the loa spirits.

In an interesting twist of fate, Coca Cola imported from
Mexico, has become popular in some areas of the U.S. with
a Hispanic Population. The coke form Mexico is made with
cane sugar instead of corn syrup and comes in a heavier,
glass bottle.

I was surprised to see in a mainstream supermarket a
small niche with a handwritten price label stating, "Coke
du Mexico." While I'm sure most consumers are purchasing
the "Mexican coke" because of its taste, I wonder if a
few might also be using it as offerings to sundry spirits.

Coke from Mexico
I included this next picture, because I'm sure no one is
buying these cokes as offerings. It merely illustrates the
spread of the popularity of Coca Cola made in Mexico with
real cane sugar. These colas are bein sold along with candy
bars, popcorn, and other treats at Blockbuster Video.
