They've been around since the late 1970's and are apart of the occult history of Maryland. It's an intriguing little article!
I will add that they both started as botanica type stores, which sold candles, statues of saints, dried herbs, roots, oils, incense, perfumes, scented sprays, odd little books, and lucky lottery tip sheets. They were both typical hoodoo supply shops.
Over the years, "Grandma's Candle Shop" has become more eclectic and now sells items relating to Buddhism and Hinduism as well as stuff directly relating to Wicca and Neo-Paganism.
"Lucky Star Candles, Home of Old Grandpa" has remained somewhat truer to its orginal focus.
